“You don't think this is weird?” Bart fidgeted as Lex knotted his tie.
“Sit still. Of course I think it's weird. My father hasn't wanted to celebrate a Christmas with me since I was shipped off to boarding school and out of the blue he invites me to share Christmas dinner. To top it off he knows all about you. A fact which I went to great lengths to hide from him.” Lex's tone was dry at Bart's annoyed look and he tightened the tie one last time, stepping back to look Bart over.
Bart scowled at the eyebrow that was raised at his red Chuck Taylors. “I'm not changing shoes. It's bad enough that I have to wear a suit and tie. And don't forget you still 'owe' me for those.”
Lex fought the urge to roll his eyes at the finger quotes. “There's no way I could forget, you'll keep harping about it until it's either do what you want or kill you to get some peace and quiet.”
Bart kept protesting that he didn't harp as they went into the dining room. He shut up at the sight of all the food and Lex couldn't stop from smiling at the huge grin that spread across his boyfriend's face. He suspected, on occasion, that the way Bart felt about him was nothing compared to how the boy felt about any and all food he could get his hands on.
Then his father arrived and the good mood evaporated. A couple of snide comments about his outfit and taste had Bart scowling and snippy and a few too many well-aimed, backhanded compliments had Lex ready to coolly murder his father with the carving knife.
In short, the dinner didn't go well.
It wasn't until later that evening, as he ushered his father out of the door, that he felt like he could breathe again. He turned around to find Bart dramatically laying on the floor at the end of the hallway, pressing the back of his hand to his forehead. “Oh my god, that was the longest meal of all time.”
Lex chuckled at the theatrics. “Come on, get up, I believe I have a couple of favors to repay.”
Bart was instantly on his feet, smirking at Lex. “Hell yeah.” Lex grinned as Bart blurred over to him and started tugging him along, grumbling to himself the entire way about how long it always took to get to the bedroom.
